Family lawyers often suggest couples create a marital agreement before they tie the knot. Pre-nuptial agreements are easier to enter into. However, a post-nuptial agreement is better than no agreement at all. 

Post-nuptial agreements are harder to enforce in court but can still be effective and enforceable if created with care. After being married for some time, our client felt it prudent to get a marital agreement to settle various issues, such as spousal support and property division in case of divorce.
