Arguments can arise when partners split up. Sometimes, when heated exchanges get out of hand, manipulative exes twist the facts to fit their narrative.
In the case of our client, an argument arose between them and their ex. The ex refused to leave our client’s apartment and physically attacked our client, who defended themselves. After finally leaving, the ex called law enforcement and falsely claimed our client assaulted them.
Our criminal defense attorneys endorsed the affirmative defense of self-defense and set the case for trial. At our urging, however, the district attorney conducted an additional investigation and dismissed the charges against our client, concluding there was insufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
